Praying with Open Hands

What surrender looks like in the prayer room.

ScriptureMatthew 6:10

"Your kingdom come, your will be done."

Jesus taught us to pray these words — and they are among the most radical in Scripture. They are a surrender. A laying down of our agenda in favour of His.

Most of us come to prayer with clenched fists. We know what we want. We know what we need. And we present our case to God with the urgency of someone who has already decided the outcome.

There is nothing wrong with bringing your desires to God — in fact, He invites it. But there is something He wants more than your requests. He wants your trust.

Open-handed prayer is not weak prayer. It is the most courageous kind. It says: I believe you are good enough that I can release the outcome to you. I believe your will is not something to be feared but something to be welcomed.

I want to challenge you today. Before you bring your list, try something different. Sit before Him in silence. Open your hands — literally, physically open them. And say: whatever you want to place here, I receive. Whatever you want to remove, I release.

That posture changes everything. Not because it changes God, but because it changes us.
